Diana is a well-established legal professional with over 20 years of experience in both the legal and financial services industries. Prior to joining Eng & Co in March 2021, she spent 14 years in-house as Chief Counsel across Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa, leading legal teams, developing and implementing legal and ethical standards as well as managing legal risks in large financial institutions, including an award-winning PE fund manager managing Asia-focused events-driven funds in the small and middle-market special opportunities, a global asset management firm in Asia which is part of a UK insurance conglomerate and a global financial services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions. Sitting as a key executive member within the FIs, Diana was responsible for spearheading high value projects and strategizing entry into key markets within APAC from a risk, legal and governance perspective. With proven track record in directing strategic vision and business operations, Diana’s last role within the global financial services firm pivoted from legal to business, when she was appointed as its Director of Business Operations & Strategy for Asia.
Diana’s areas of expertise are in legal risk management, regulatory advice and corporate governance within the financial services sector and more specifically, in the asset and wealth management space.. Her areas of expertise within the asset and wealth management space cover a variety of asset classes, including private equity, hedge fund, real estate, venture capital and traditional asset management, as well as in the insurance sector, investment consulting, financial advisory and wealth management. She has experience in the payments sector, where she had assisted a fintech start-up payments company in preparing its licence application under Singapore’s Payment Services Act.
Diana’s legal career started in private practice which spanned about 10 years before she went in-house. She started practice as a litigation lawyer for about 5 years, before switching to corporate finance, fund management, banking and general corporate for another 5 years.
Diana has been recognised amongst the most influential and innovative in-house counsels working in South-East Asia, in an independent legal publication, Legal 500's GC Powerlist Southeast Asia 2017 within the Commercial and Professional Services sector and, for the second time, in 2019, within the Financial Services sector.
Diana holds an MBA (Executive Program) from Nanyang Business School, in conjunction with University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School and UC Berkeley - Haas School of Business. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from University of Bristol (United Kingdom) and was admitted as Barrister-at-Law, Middle Temple, United Kingdom. She is multilingual in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia.
Diana is admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of Singapore.
